Sofa Vergara in Bathing Suit Shares "TBT" Celebwell

Sofía Vergara, the Modern Family star, has been seen dressed to the nines at award shows, in her slimming outfits, and in swimsuits, too. She showed off the latter this week in a "TBT" photo of herself in a bathing suit. She's 49 now but could easily pass for the age she is in the photo. How does she stay so fit? Read on to see 5 ways Sofía Vergara stays in shape and the photos that prove they work—and to get beach-ready yourself, don't miss these essential 30 Best-Ever Celebrity Bathing Suit Photos!

Sofía works with celebrity trainer Gunnar Peterson, to develop a diet that works for her. Gunnar is realistic, and is really not one to never allow his clients to treat themselves. He also is known for practicing what he preaches, giving up things like late-night sugar and avoiding alcohol for the most part.

Sofía prioritizes efficient, full body workouts with her trainer. "I don't do that many isolation movements, like single joint stuff," Gunnar says. "I do bigger movements. If we're going to do a lunge,we're probably going to add an upper body component to it, like a lunge with a wood chop, a side lunge with a wood chop, or a rear lunge with a lateral raise, or a forward lunge with a front raise."

Sofía doesn't make excuses that she's too busy. "Five minutes for a warmup, 30 minutes for a workout, and five minutes for a stretch and a cooldown. By the end, that's 40 minutes," Gunnar says. "You really don't have 40 minutes? The President is far busier than you, Kim Kardashian is far busier than you, and she can make time. It's about prioritizing."

She sticks with it by picking a trainer that likes to keep things fun in the gym. "I try to keep it fun. I try and put a little bit of levity in it, but at the same time, I don't sacrifice the work. We may goof around and stuff, but we're definitely going to goof around while we're working," he said.

Sofía's trainer, Gunnar, says that dropping pasta, grains, potatoes, and rice can help when it comes to slimming down. Watching sodium is important for weight loss, too, because all of this can be factors in retaining water which, according to Gunnar, "blurs, to a certain degree, definition and muscle separation," he says.
